Massachusetts Infant Asylum is established.
1867
Founded by Lucy Ellen Sewell and others, it is located at the New England Hospital for Women and Children. The first foundling hospital in the U.S., it moves into a new building on Chestnut Avenue in 1876 and changes its name to the Massachusetts Babies Hospital in 1912. It merges with the Boston Children’s Aid Society in 1916, then with the Boston Children’s Friend Society to become Boston Children’s Services in 1960.
